Not just Food and Drink

Here at York Racecourse the culinary team, led by Executive Chef, Chris Scott, pride ourselves on delivering our guests a memorable dining experience, starting with carefully selected local suppliers to provide racegoers with some of the finest ingredients from the Yorkshire region. Chris and his kitchen brigade of crafted chefs enthusiastically create dishes create using these fabulous ingredients.

Dealing with local suppliers means we have more personal relationships, a greater control on quality and use less ‘food miles’ in getting our produce here, from a range of root vegetables from Poskitt’s of Goole; to delicious grain fed chicken from family business Soanes Poultry of Driffield.

Our cheese and charcuterie is from Cryer & Stott (est 1960) of Castleford, with such delicacies as Eyup Yorkshire! Cheddar and Sheffield Forge Red, and the herbs we use to flavour some of our dishes come from WS Bentley Growers of Gomersal provide herbs to flavour many of our dishes. Strawberries are from Annabel’s Deliciously British which grow from May to October on the Makin-Jones family farm in Micklefield West Yorkshire’s lush but rugged countryside, and our award-winning  ice cream comes from Grandpa Greene, Greater Manchester. We even cure our salmons using Slingsby of Harrogate gins.

Attention to detail doesn’t stop there. Our chilled sandwich range is brought to us from Samba Catering of Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire using fresh and mainly local ingredients such as Wensleydale and Carrot Chutney (v). The packaging used is 100% biodegradable. Also among our retail offer this year are house made Yorkshire puddings filled with Mashed Potatoes, Theakston Ale gravy and a choice of fillings such as British Beef Steak with Mushrooms. The John Carr Hot Counter serves up some sumptuous griddled offerings all topped off with The Chilli Jam Man Sauce, also from Yorkshire of course.

Among our range of beers and lager is our Special York Guest Beer from Masham, Theakston Ebor IPA, available at the Flying Frankie. Whilst our wines are clearly not produced locally, we continue our long-standing relationship with Hull supplier House of Townend, with whom we spend the first quarter of each year working to select a unique wine list that we believe is both interesting and good value.

Whether you are eating in one of our self service restaurants or enjoying sumptuous corporate hospitality - whatever your tastes, and whether you want a tasty snack or three-course meal we aim to have something to suit your palate and your pocket.

Have a great day’s racing!
